A Legacy That Lives On
Who Are You Raising?
2 Timothy 2:2
“Take the teachings that you heard me proclaim in the presence of many witnesses, and entrust them to reliable people, who will be able to teach others also.”
Paul understood that the Gospel was never meant to stop with one person. He invested in Timothy and then instructed Timothy to invest in others.
Paul taught Timothy. Timothy would teach faithful people. Those faithful people would teach others.
That is how spiritual multiplication happens.
Great leaders do more than build ministries. They build people. They recognize potential, develop gifts and prepare others to fulfill the calling God has placed upon their lives.
Moses had Joshua.
Elijah had Elisha.
Paul had Timothy.
Jesus called and developed twelve disciples.
We must ask ourselves, “What am I accomplishing?” But we must also ask, “Who am I preparing to continue what God has started through me?”
When everything depends on one person, the ministry becomes fragile. When wisdom, responsibility and opportunity are shared with others, the ministry becomes stronger.
Raising leaders requires time and intentionality. We must give others room to observe, participate, learn and even make mistakes. No one becomes a mature leader overnight. Development requires patience, encouragement, correction and trust.
Sometimes we ask God to send us leaders while overlooking the people He has already placed around us. They may not be fully prepared, but neither were we when someone first believed in us.
Take another look at the people around you.
Who needs your encouragement?
Who needs an opportunity?
Who needs your guidance?
Who needs you to see in them what they cannot yet see in themselves?
Do not build something that ends with you. Build a legacy that continues through others.
Let us pray.
Father, give us eyes to recognize the potential You have placed in others. Give us patience to mentor, wisdom to teach, courage to correct and humility to release.
Help us invest what You have placed within us into faithful people who will carry Your mission forward. Raise pastors, missionaries, evangelists, teachers, worship leaders and servants who are filled with the Holy Spirit.
May our legacy be measured not only by what we accomplish, but also by the people we prepare and release.
Lord, help us raise leaders whose influence will reach farther than ours and whose faithfulness will continue long after our assignment is complete.
In the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
Have a blessed and productive Monday!
